Introducing the idea

A portable shower is simply running water you can take with you — no plumbing required.

Most portable showers follow the same easy idea: a small pump or a gravity-fed hose draws water from a container and sends it to a handheld spray head. That makes them useful far beyond the campsite — for rinsing gear after a hike, cooling off in the garden, washing a dog after a muddy walk or freshening up between van stops.

This collection brings together several styles shown in our photographs, from compact pump units with on-board displays to classic handheld heads designed for tubs and slide rails.

  1. Fill

    Place the intake in a bucket, tank or other clean water container.

  2. Switch on

    Start the pump or open the flow control on the handset.

  3. Rinse
